Important Dates

The California State Legislature convened the 2013-2014 legislative session on December 3, 2012 by swearing in 39 new freshman members, the most of any session since 1966. This promises to be an interesting session with new political dynamics in the makeup of the legislative body, and a Governor who is committed to reform, austerity, and progressive ideas to move California forward in a rapidly changing social and economic environment.

Jan. 25    Last day to submit bill requests to the Office of Legislative Counsel
Jan. 28    Extraordinary session of the California State Legislature begins to continue the work of implementing the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Feb. 01    BOARS and Academic Senate Meeting - Sacramento
Feb. 06    MESA Advocacy Day
Feb. 22    Last day for bills to be introduced

Current Issues

In the first week of the 2013-2014 session a number of pieces of legislation were introduced that will be of interest to the University of California.
